If you want to interact with other RVers, there are several club and organizations to choose from like the Escapees. They have a forum and several sub sections of the club dedicated to various interests such as photography, writing, singles, hiking, etc. that you can join in. They also have rallies both formal and informal for social networking and just being friendly. When you visit an Escapees park, you'll also be given a hug, just for showing up. My RVSpace.com is also a good working RV forum. Just remember to look for active sites, clubs, and forums to keep up with the latest buzz in the industry.

Google Maps now has dumps. Type 'RV Dump' wherever you are and you get a batch of dump information. It's a user contributed information program, which means search results will increase over time. The downfall is that it is a little scattered so you might need to try several searches like RV Dump, RV Dumping, RV Dumps, Dump Station. No more yellow pages and/or 411 directory phone calls. Just connect to the Internet and try out Google maps! Remember that a lot of RV parks will also let you dump your tanks for a nominal fee. One of the first things to consider with motorhomes is tank capacities. When dry camping you must learn to conserve the most critical resources, water and gray tank space. Taking "Navy" showers (wet down, turn off, soap, scrub, rinse) and using disposable dishes, flatware, and cooking vessels/utensils allows two people to go about a week or more on a 100 gallon tank. If it is practical on your coach, look into some method of diverting/moving gray water into the black tank. Then we open the gray (first) and the black for long enough to transfer several gallons. Of course, it only works if the gray is more full than the black. Not all rigs are set up the same so check the specifications of your rig.

Critters can sometimes be a hassle to deal with. While enjoying the outdoors we must realize that we are in their territory so it’s always good to take extra precautionary steps before engaging in daily routines. Always check your shoes before putting them on and roll back the sheets every night before going to bed. At night, don't stick your hand in a place before looking with a flashlight. Watch out for snakes in the summer under your rig. It's a great place for them to get out of the hot sun. In some areas scorpions can be present. Some helpful tips include sprinkling a little soap powder around the RV tires when parking for an extended period. This tends to deter crawling pests. Another good idea is to place plastic window screening on the inside of your heater and fridge access panels. Works great. No bugs, spiders or little critters. It's even been said to draw a line of Comet or Ajax around the tires will not allow ants to want to cross. Whether fact or fiction, some and/or all of these methods are worth trying. Just keep your eyes open and always be aware of what's around you and how to treat a bite if you happen to get one. Don't let a few pests stop you from seeing this great country of ours.
