New Motorhome Versus Used Motorhome

Tuesday, 9 March 2010 08:28 by admin
There are many points to think about if you are planning to purchase a motorhome for yourself or your family. You have to consider whether to buy a used RV or a new RV. When deciding whether to buy a new RV or used RV, you need to see what the pros and cons for each one are.
These are some of the points that you must take a look at when purchasing a motorhome:

Most people prefer to buy a new RV because they have more liberty in decorating the automobile. You can decorate the RV lavishly if you have the budget. One of the reasons people purchase a new RV is because of the pride associated with it. However, if you are set to get a new RV, you should seriously think about the impact to your financial status as well.

It is known that a new RV is expensive, it could cost you less than $200K for a standard RV and not less than $300K for a luxury one. It is worth to say that according to a study, the depreciation of this kind of automobile is always higher than any other automobile. The maintenance cost is also high as well.

Many people are buying used RVs simply because of their lower selling cost. As discussed above, the depreciation is always higher once the new RV is running on the road. However, you can expect to get a used RV for 30%-40% lower than a new RV. But, you may experience a poor performance for the used RV as well as a high annual upkeep cost because you do not know how the previous owner treated the automobile. You should usually bring an experienced mechanic to look at the used RV prior to making up your mind, just to guarantee the condition is at its best.

There are many arguments on purchasing new RVs or used RVs. Before you make any decision, you should take in consideration your personal financial standing.

Planning For a Family Camping Trip

Tuesday, 9 March 2010 08:27 by admin
Planning for a family camping excursion could be a lot of fun, it may also be a headache, and many families go camping each year. However, it is critical, to be sure that everything you are going to require for your camping outing is accounted for.

The most effective way for a family to plan a camping excursion is to always make a survival list. The survival list is useful because you can check things off as you go down the list. To make certain you have everything, begin at the beginning of the list and work your way down. In addition, be sure to double check simply to be sure you have not forgotten anything.

Nobody wants to go on a camping trip, to find out that something important was left at home, like a part of the tent for example. Without that part, you will be unable to set up your tent, and that can be embarrassing. Also with a survival list, you will not have to spend extra money on something that you already have. There are certain items that need to be on your survival list, like flashlights for when it gets dark.

Additionally, you want to be sure you have enough room for sleeping mats, pillows, blankets and sleeping bags. Back in the cowboy days, men slept on the ground, but nobody does that nowadays. However, if one of the family members forgets their sleeping mat or sleeping bag then they may have to sleep on the ground for just a night, and that can be painful.

Additionally when planning a family camping trip, you will need to take along fishing poles and tackle, and emergency food in case you do not catch any fish. Be certain to bring two knives and a gun along for any unwelcome animals approaching your camping area. You will also need a big ice cooler to put fish in, drinks and emergency food as well.

In addition, some camping sites do not provide showers and toilets, therefore take a conveyable shower and toilet with you. Also, make sure to have plenty of toilet paper. Never use any kind of leaves when using the restroom in the woods.

How to Buy a Used RV - Secrets RV Dealers Don't Want You to Know

Tuesday, 9 March 2010 08:25 by admin

What is the RV Dealer mark up on a used RV?

The typical RV dealer mark up on a used RV is 30%-45% above wholesale RV invoice cost, with extremes at 10%-60%. The manufacturer's suggested price is generally 30-40%, but most RV dealers are free to sell the RV for the maximum cost they can get it for. High volume RV dealers generally sell RVs at lower margins. Smaller volume RV dealers may sell less but expect more profit on each unit.

What is the wholesale invoice price amount?

This is the price the RV dealer paid for the motorhome. Most RV dealers will not let you see this price up front. Even though they have list costs of 30%-50% above RV wholesale invoice, most RV dealers enjoy making at least a 30% margin on their inventory. You should usually be ready to talk them to at least 30% over wholesale invoice. To stay in business, an RV dealer would sell for a minimum of 10%-20%. RVs are generally more expensive then automobiles.

Are their any other benefits to being a high volume RV dealer?

Yes, being a high volume RV dealer also allows an agent to get manufacturers RV discounts. This depends on how aggressively the manufacturer is working to promote products or increase market share.

What amount should I offer the RV dealer and how do you figure out this amount?

If you know the RV discounted pricing or invoice amount (the amount the RV dealer paid) for the motorhome, in a tough market just add 15% to 20% to the wholesale amount to make your offer. If the wholesale amount is unknown, here is a good way to estimate it:

1 ) Divide the SRP (suggested price) by 1.4 (this assumes the average a 40% mark up) ex. Listed price 140,000/1.4 is equal to $100,000 wholesale invoice cost.

2 ) Add a 30% mark up to the invoice price to bring it to $130,000 this an offer that a RV dealer will rarely refuse.

3 ) If you feel the dealer is in a tough market offer the invoice amount plus a 20% mark up = $120,000

4 ) Probably the hottest deal you will find on the current years model is a 10% mark up for $110,000 above the wholesale RV invoice. Most RV dealers will not accept this though.

Used RV Price Guidelines - It's Not Just About the Money

Monday, 22 February 2010 07:27 by admin

Recreational cars or RVs are popular automobiles for, well, recreation. These are largely homes on wheels, having many of the facilities in a real home. Common features include electrical outlets leading outside and also within, built-in fridges, sinks, and even toilets. As expected, these autos are much bigger than normal cars, with full height for standing within the vehicle space, and length for all of the features. They're also built to be troublesome and sturdy, and will often last past the interest of owners.

Be warned though, that it is not always about the money you are able to save. You could end up spending more for repairs before getting to use it or breakdowns in the near future. Here are a few things to note when buying used RVs. The engine should be running correctly. That implies no stutters, no stalling, and clean emissions. Any of those could ruin a recreation in the offing, and could get you in other troubles besides.

RVs carry an onboard water supply, which is what feed the sink and the john. The used RV price may be some distance from worth it if you have got to have these components replaced.
Of course, if there's water in storage to be used, there has to be somewhere waste water goes. It can't very well dump on the road, right? There is also a waste water and poop tank on the RV, for storing fluids from the sink and toilet after use. They might be separated or compounded in one tank, but either way you need to make sure that there are no leaks anywhere.

The electric system desires checking too. Make sure that all installed outlets have running power and the onboard power supply batteries are charging and releasing energy correctly.
This is where the used RV price could swell up, not to mention the frustration that accompanies breakdowns and repairs. In such cases you might believe that purchasing a brand new one would be better, and you would be right. Just don't forget to check out all the features, make sure they're working correctly and will continue to work correctly for a goodly time before committing to the acquisition. Remember these used RV price tenets, and good luck finding the RV for you!

Accessories for your RV

Monday, 22 February 2010 07:25 by admin

If you are like most people, you can't afford to “trick out” your motor home before you buy it. Therefore you gradually buy accessories for it little by little until you have your perfect RV. And if you are like most people you probably don't have any idea of the range of accessories out there to make your RV living more comfortable and luxurious. Here are a few accessories to think about putting in your motor home.

Ever had to stop at a laundromat to wash your clothes? The Ariston Stackable washer and dryer by Splendide has made a unit to fit your fifth wheel trailer. What about that shower? Always hitting your elbows when washing your hair, Extend-A-Shower has a solution to maximize your shower space. Tired of watching the same 5 movies you brought? The Wingaurd Carryout satellite TV antenna makes entertainment more enjoyable cross-country. If you are going to spring for that, why not a new flat screen television? Some motorhomes are able to support up to a 42” mounted TV!

That is just the beginning of customizing your RV. If your finances see an upturn and you want to upgrade your interior, think about carpeting or in some cases, hardwood flooring. There are options to install sky lights, extend living rooms, and install jacuzzi tubs. Some of the greatest Nascar drivers' motorhomes, the price tag extends past a million dollars, so the options are endless.

Buying Repossessed RVs

Monday, 22 February 2010 07:24 by admin

If you have ever wanted to buy an RV, but don't like the stiker price of the new ones, here is your chance to have one at a new lower price. How? Buying repossessed RVs is the way to get used RVs at great prices. There's an abundance of RV auctions taking place all across the country.

How would you buy repossessed RV? Repossessed RVs are similar to repossessed cars, they've been repo-ed by the lender after the owner has defaulted on payments. When this occurs, the RV goes to a live or silent auction.

Where do you find these RV auctions? RV auctions can be found by asking a local RV dealer or looking online or in the newspaper.  Most of the time at these auctions, you will be given the opportunity to check out the repossessed RVs and inquire about their features. In some lucky cases, people have purchased used custom RVs for the price of standard new ones, so theres a good possibility of finding that motorhome you've had your eye on at a lower price.

The most important thing to do when you're bidding on repossessed RVs is make yourself as knowledgeable as possible so that you get exactly what you're looking for and nothing less. You'll want to research the market value of new RVs, so that when you're making your selection. Try using the Kelley RV blue book and the Nada RV values guide for determining the going rate.   And you'll also want to inspect both the interiors and exteriors, particularly for  signs of water damage and unusual amounts of wear and tear.

Once you've done all that, you are ready to drive out the auction with your new (at least to you) RV. And don't sweat that it isn't brand new, off-the-lot, you just received the best deal possible.

You Can Buy an RV- But Should You?

Monday, 22 February 2010 07:22 by admin
Buying an Recreational Vehicle is a complex emotional decision. The decision has financial, technical and personal preference elements. What type of RV do I want? How big should it be? How can I afford to buy it? What do I want it to look like? Sometimes these answers just leave asking even more questions. What can I live without? If I can't afford the one I want, will I still want a motorhome?

In these hard economic times families are asking many questions with all their purchases and many times the answer is they just don't need it or can't afford it right now. There are many families that have taken a different route and have decided rental RVs are the best option for the annual family vacation, or for the summer months when everyone can travel. This is an economical choice for some, but just because it works for one family doesn't mean it will work for every family that can't have the Fleetwood motorhome they've been wanting.

To make ownership financially worthwhile you need to use your RV about 40 days per year if you buy the RV outright or about 50 days per year if you buy the RV on credit. On the other hand for those who live full-time in their RV the costs per day can be well under $100. On the other hand for those families that enjoy to travel but don't have the convenience of doing it much because of conflicting schedules, school, work, etc, buying an RV can be an added expense that doesn't serve its purpose eleven and half months out of the year.

No matter how the decision process goes, make sure the family talks with each other and knows the commitment each one is willing to give to traveling through the year. It can make the difference between a few thousand and ten's of thousands.

Wednesday, 17 February 2010 04:59 by admin
It's easy to go out and purchase a brand new RV if you have lots of cash to spend. Many of us though, have found used travel trailers for sale at far better prices. This is the time to be hunting for a second hand RV, because many owners have to sell to economize or to gain a little additional to help their monetary situation.

Always start searching for the perfect RV in your neighborhood. If you are lucky enough to find one, you may save on traveling and transport costs. Look in your local paper or search Craigslist or MyRVLink on the internet to work out if there are any used travel trailers for sale. Craigslist has a search page for each city. If there are none in your area and you are impatient to start RVing, you may need to broaden your search to other nearby cities. Occasionally the additional drive is worthwhile for the best RV deal.
