If you've decided you want to invest in a recreational vehicle, the first thing you'll need to do is establish how often you will be using it. For example, if you have recently retired and want to travel and explore the country, you would be looking for something with all comforts of a small house. Or, if you simply want to take a few long weekends to explore a smaller model might be more appropriate for you. After choosing a size, you will need to choose a class. A class make up the majority of the American market and are the biggest vehicles available. B class is generally a campervan with the curved side walls. The C class is slightly bigger than the B class and more practical if you plan on spending any amount of time in your camper.

Taking a few basic precautions will help to ensure that your camping adventure becomes memorable for all the right reasons. Make it a habit to lock your RV every time you leave it. This should include securing all exterior storage compartments, windows, and closing all blinds and shades. Not only will this keep out wandering eyes but will keep the sun off fabrics to prevent fading. It is always a good idea to get to know the RV campers next to you. Offer to keep and eye on their site when they're away and they will do the same for you. The RV park or campground that you choose is also an important choice. Ask the management about their security means, whether they have security gates, a perimeter fence, and nightly patrols. These few security precautions will help ensure you have a great camping experience and give you some great memories to leave with.

1. How many beds do you need?
The number of people you will be traveling with will decide the size of RV you need.
2. What facilities do you need?
Do you need a shower, toilet, heating, refrigerator? The type of sites you plan on staying at will greatly influence this decision.
3. How long will be away?
The duration of the trips you plan to take should influence the size and comfort level of trailer you want. If you plan on going on long trips then pay attention to your living space size and the size of your fresh water and waste water tanks.
4. How will you be using your RV?
If you plan on taking major roads and then camping out for a few days you would be more comfortable in a motorhome but if you plan to move around frequently and explore the area you might be more comfortable in a trailer that is more maneuverable.
5. What is your budget?
No matter the other factors, this will be a main deciding factor. However, remember an RV is an investment and they hold their value very well.

Traveling by RV can be
one of the most economical ways to travel, but can become pricey if you don't
watch your budget. With a little planning and research there are many ways to
save money and still have fun. First, vacation nearby. You'll be surprised at
how many interesting destinations is just one tank of gas away. If you do
decide to travel further, try making fewer stops and spend more time at each
destination. Also, the less your RV weighs the better mileage you'll get on the
road. Pack lightly and try shopping for some of your necessities once you've
reached your destination. When it comes to eating, don't eat out. Restaurants
can be costly, especially with the whole family. Cooking and eating together is
the cheaper yet more fun alternative. Buy inexpensive, plastic dinnerware.
While using and throwing away paper plates and cups may be easier, reusing your
plastic dinnerware saves money. Also, try shopping at local discount stores,
flea markets, yard sales or roadside stands instead of the supermarket. It's a
cheaper alternative and you just might get lucky and find some unusual
treasures!

Do you have a small drip
coming from the outlet of the water heater pop-off valve? It is very likely you
have lost the air that is required for expansion and thus when the water
expands the pop off valve does its job. Try reestablishing the air
head. This can be accomplished by letting the water cool and with the
water supply turned off open the pop-off valve manually and let the water drain
out till it stops. Another technique is to drain the tank part way with
the water supply turned off then reinstall the plug and turn the water supply
on. Open a hot water tap and let it run till no more air is
present. This should fix your problem.

Deltran Corp.
presents the BatteryTender Plus, which is suited for RVs and other vehicles
that are used seasonally. BatteryTender Plus is a 1.25-amp battery charger
designed to fully charge a battery and maintain it at proper voltage. Deltran
says BatterTender protects the vehicle's pwn battery from self-discharge and
also prevents sulphation, even improving the condition of the battery by fully
recharging and conditioning the plates. BatteryTender features built-in
diagnostics (red and green lights that alternately flash) for reverse polarity
or when the battery is sulfated or if the terminals are corroded.

If you're going to park on
concrete or asphalt for a long period of time, you want a vapor barrier between
the ground and the tires so that the concrete or asphalt doesn't leach the oils
out of the tires. Goodyear, BF Goodrich, Firestone and Michelin all recommend
that when a vehicle is to be stored for an extended period and sitting on the
tires, it should be parked with all tires located such that moisture will drain
away from them and that a vapor barrier be placed between each tire and any
surface that could hold moisture for an extended period. For a tire to sit
constantly on one spot and remain damp for long periods will increase the rate
of decomposition of the fibers in the tire. They will fare best if kept dry and
properly inflated, and are protected from direct exposure to the sun.

If you are in the market for a used RV there are a few
things to know before you buy. Always do
your homework before you buy. Take care
to notice the condition of the upholstery, carpet, kitchen and bathrooms. It is pretty safe to say that if those have
not been well taken care of then the mechanical parts under the RV are probably
in worse shape. Also, check the black
water tank. It is not going to smell
wonderful, of course, but if it has not been properly maintained there will be
a strong odor that can leak into the entire RV.
Lastly, check the tires, battery, air conditioner and refrigerator. These are the things that will require the
most maintenance in the future so make sure they are currently in good working
order. You should be able to get a good
deal on a used RV so take your time shopping to make sure you are getting
exactly what you want.
